Touch Research Institute and the Medical Universities of Harvard, Duke, and Miami conducted extensive studies that show the positive effects of massage therapy go beyond what was previously thought.
Among the conditions that are positively affected are:
Anxiety and stress
Alzheimer’s
Anorexia
Arthritis
Attention Deficit Disorder [ADD]
Blood pressure stabilization
Bulimia
Cancer
Chronic Fatigue
Cerebral Palsy
Diabetes
Fibromyalgia
Parkinson’s
Heart rate stabilization
Multiple Sclerosis
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD]
Stroke
Pre and post natal
Headaches
Migraines
Mood and well being in the elderly
During and after massage therapy the “feel good” neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin are released. These are the body’s internal pain regulators. Simultaneously the “stress hormones” cortisol, epinephrine, norepinephrine and AVP are reduced. This combination allows the body to heal as well as thrive.
What can you expect in a massage session?
First and foremost this is your session! Your comfort is most important and feedback from you, at any moment for anything, is encouraged by me. Whether this feedback is about depth of pressure, temperature in the room, music I play, or anything else, I need to know about it. Your sense of privacy will be maintained at all times and you will be professionally draped. Please dress down to whatever you are comfortable with. I have had people fully clothed, with a sweater, on my table.
Usually I use a water based professional massage cream that has aloe vera and ivy [good for the skin] and arnica which soothes tired, achy, and injured muscles and connective tissue. If you prefer to bring in your own oil, lotion or cream that is fine. Again, this is your session. So, what are you waiting for?
